Jeff is a co-worker of Mark Corrigan at JLB Credit. He is portrayed by Neil Fitzmaurice.

Jeff and Mark are frequent rivals for the affections of Sophie, with Jeff's manly, intimidating behaviour serving as a foil to Mark's mild-mannered persona.

Characterisation[]

Jeff is from from Merseyside. He is often openly mocking Mark and antagonizing him during and after work hours. He is work buddies with Johnson, his boss, and has worked with both him and Mark in at least two different places, including Met City Bank.

He is a good bowler, plays pool and poker, and never passes up a chance to flex his masculine energy.

After Mark and Sophie's relationship falls apart, Jeff appears to gradually get close to Sophie again. Mark's anger over this peaks when Sophie even considers naming their child 'Geoff.' In series 7 he becomes the baby's godfather when Mark and Jeremy both fail to turn up to the christening on time, and it appears that Jeff and Sophie are back in a relationship by the end of the series. Jeff confirms they are back together when he comes to Mark's house to collect the baby in Series 8. By series 9, though, he is out of Sophie's life.

When in a flirty mood, Jeff signs his emails "Jeffy." (Dance Class)

When Mark is fired in the series finale, Jeff is there to take his place.

Trivia[]

  • His address in Croydon is given as 33 Ringfield Road. He lives in an upstairs unit.
  • Jeff is mentioned by Sophie in episode one, but does not appear until episode two.
  • David Mitchell once joked that if the show came back Mark would most likely get his comeuppance and finally punch Jeff in the face.
