Jlb

History and hierarchy

JLB Credit is a middle-of-the-road loan and credit company with an average-sized roster of employees. The parent company is based in Germany, owned by a man named Stefan Strauss and the holding company is MHRT Finance, as seen on the company checks (Jeremy at JLB).

From the demeanor of the employees it seems to be a poorly secured and overall boring place to work. The workers tend to find a lot of free time in the day for dawdling, hijinks, and harassment, albeit sometimes they are asked to come in on Saturdays. There are several branches of JLB Credit, with the board meetings being held in the Kettering location. The HR department at JLB would be considered fairly progressive, taking care to treat even the strangest of pranks as potential hate crimes.

JLB's featured employees are Mark, Sophie, Jeff, Dobby and Gerrard. Alan Johnson is shown to have joined JLB as early as the Series 1 episode, Mark Makes a Friend, and it is established in the Series 2 episode, Dance Class that Johnson is their new manager — presumably replacing their previous boss, Barbara.

JLB has partnerships with other financial companies, like Shapeero Finance.

Mark's relationship with JLB and eventual shutdown

Initially Mark seems to enjoy a great deal of autonomy at JLB despite his recurring inferiority complex with women and Johnson. In the first series subordinate employees are seen to bring him coffee. Once Johnson is promoted to managerial status, Mark then succumbs to a "lapdog" position even though technically he does have the power of the pen to organize meetings (Conference) and fire fellow employees (Mark's Women).

In Series 6 in the episode Jeremy at JLB, Johnson announces that the branch is being shut down. This leads to Mark getting a job as a Mexican restaurant waiter and a historical walking tour guide, and writing a satirical play about the German branch of JLB. The shutdown also led to Johnson slowly losing his mind and founding a startup called Consultio/Consultius.

Jeremy's relationship with JLB

Jeremy gets an interview at JLB (which he fails at) in the episode The Interview in Series 1. Eventually, he gets a job at JLB, in Series 6's Jeremy at JLB. Jeremy only works at JLB for a few hours before the branch is closed down.
